Ordinances Passed during Tad’s TWO TERMS on Council: A Vicious Dog and Animal Ordinance – created to enable safety and trapping guideline A Non-Smoking Ordinance – eliminated smoking in League City restaurants A Restriction on the residency of Registered Sex Offender – eliminating sexual offenders from residing within 2000 yards of where children gather A Restriction on neighborhood solicitation – restricting the times our homes can be solicited Reached an agreement with the Galveston County Tax Assessor to collect taxes for league City – another way to reduce costs and increase efficiency with economies of scale. • Ordinances Pending: Ethics Ordinance- a strong code of Ethics that ensures that city officials are held accountable in the City Charter. • Awards and Recognition: League City named 65th Best Place to Live in the Nation by Money Magazine in 2006. Judge Yarborough calls League City “The Jewel of Galveston County” during his State of the County in 2007. Working together as a team, the City Council and city staff passed a budget that met the growing infrastructure needs without raising taxes and passed a five- year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). On March 7, 2008, League City received the Government Finance Officers Association of the United State and Canada (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. • (This award represents the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting through a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device.) • Progress: Development of League City Senior Citizen’s Program in 2005 Implemented the 311 program – a program that allows you to access the city for any type of complaint or concerns by just dialing 3-1-1. Improved and enhanced the quality of Local Channel 16. Bringing more information about all things important to the citizens of League City Naming Mike Jez as new Chief of Police in November of 2007, Chief Jez comes to League City with 33 years of law enforcement experience. He has held the position of Police Chief and City Manager in a number of cities. Redevelopment is taking place at two of League City’s mainstay shopping centers, the HEB Pantry Grocery-anchored center, located at FM 518 and Highway 3, and the former Academy Sports and Outdoors shopping center, located at FM 518 and Interstate 45 in 2008. Have reduced the TAX RATE in League City all 5 times (2000, 2001, 2005-2008) I had the opportunity to do so Widening of FM 518 in 2008. This includes nationally known chains like Chili’s, Panda Express, and Denny’s as well as unique eateries like Masa Sushi, 888 Chinese and Phil’s Place Shrimp and Oyster Bar. We have a drive-thru Starbuck. We have a YMCA, LA Fitness, 24-Hour Fitness and The Fitness Center at South Shore. And you can now shop at Home Depot, WalMart, Petco or Best Buy and never leave League City. With all of these choices is it any wonder that we are League City Proud!
